Here is the pitch for Marley C-M, and Melissa W.'s story idea:
Set in the city, our sitcom deals with the relationships between four co-workers with extremely diverse personalities. While fighting to reach the top of their seemingly towering career ladder at one of the most prestige publishing companies in Canada, our main characters have to deal with relationships, meeting deadlines, a completely unreasonable boss, as well as their own friendships with each other. With three girls and a guy, our fast-paced show will be filed with estrogen, energy, excitement, and light to large shots of drama...

With three girls and a gay guy, our fast-paced show will be filed with estrogen, energy, excitement, and light to large shots of drama.
Characters:
Ethan queen – (fashion consultant) , With his great love of Cher, tanning, dance music, beaches, shopping, drinks with the girls, small dogs and dates, Andrew is almost as estrogen bound as his fellow lady co-workers. Though flamboyancy isn’t always openly accepted, he intends to earn his rights, and work his way to the top of the fashion industry through quick wits and an overall flawless knowledge of product. Hopefully the tedious workload won’t overwhelm our prince of procrastination.
Andrea Daniels – (writer) , Though at times you may have trouble picking her out of a crowd, you’ll never find yourself lost within her realms. Andrea lives her life with almost the same organization as you could find in her closet. A classic hit of scented candles, chick flicks, and doing her best to help others would make any of her days a perfect day. Though her passive behavior, and vigorous need for order may themselves be two of her greatest downfalls. She’ll need to stand her ground and expand her horizons if she wants to further her career, especially since she is the least educated in the fashion department.
Molly Manderville – (Graphic designer) , Like her co-workers, Molly Manderville is fighting to get to the top of her career ladder; however, she is striving to do so while keeping everyone in high spirits. Molly will force her bubbly personality on her co-workers, even at the most dreadful of times. Therefore, she can be extremely fun to hang out with; however, she is the first person to get totally annoying. Sleeping is wasted time for this vegetarian, whose love of bright colors, sparkles and loud music shows her creativity and optimism. Molly has a strong love of both fashion and the environment, which proves to be contradictory. She has a fear of long-term commitments, such as marriage and it places stress on her potential relationships. More than anything, Molly wants everyone to look at the world the way she does; as a daily opportunity for laughter.
Veronica Rouge – (Boss) , “That’s Rouge dear. Rouge with a big “R” because I’m already royally better than you are.” Ask her how she’s feeling and she’ll reply with extravagant glee, "Miserable, darling, as usual. Perfectly wretched.” She applies red lipstick on a daily basis and real fur coats are her trademark. She will also never be found with the same guy twice. She’ll say “Get my car; I’m going out with Anthony” one day, and “Who’s Anthony? I’m going out with Nathan!” the next. She enjoys doing what she wants, when she wants and dislikes people that don’t help her to do just that. Her goal is to achieve personal satisfaction, meaning timeless beauty, and 99% of the world’s wealth. She is extremely spoiled, sophisticated, ruthless and superficial. Her strengths include intimidating and manipulating people, as well as giving orders and getting what she wants. Her deepest fears are wrinkles, getting old, and being caught wearing the same outfit twice or without makeup. Ms. Rouge wants to achieve personal satisfaction; however she continues to keep pushing others away, resulting in her own loneliness. Of course she would never show that weakness, and strives to keep her image as the owner of the most popular magazine in the country, “Royal Rouge”.
Great Character write ups! I can only imagine how they would all interact with each other. I can see them both clash and get along, plot against others, and try to help others. There is a lot you can do with these characters. Great job.
All three characters are hard at work, struggling to complete their portfolios by deadline. Andrea has trouble with her boyfriend and is left wondering weather or not she should stay with him. We later find out the she shows signs of pregnancy. Meanwhile Ethan is choosing models for the photo shoot, when he gets stuck on one who more than catches his eye. Also, Molly begins mixings signals, and blurring the lines when it comes to her friendship with Ethan.
In order to work with the setting we’ve been given, many of our ideas had to change. Our Pitch is still similar, set in the city. However it deals with the relationships between four university students with extremely diverse personalities. They are now fighting to get their dream jobs, at one of the most prestige publishing companies in Canada, while dealing with relationships, meeting deadlines, the stress of getting the job and their own friendships with each other. With three girls and a gay guy, our fast-paced show will be filed with estrogen, energy, excitement, and light to large shots of drama.
Voice over
Simplicity, as human beings we crave it, and in Fashion, there’s no escaping it. It’s the clean lines, the sketch lines, the tag lines, and the fixed lines in our photography. We’re fast passed, we’re tired, but we’re organized and we get it right. Our lives revolve around image, around cemetery, and iconography. Our work reflects individuality, yet appeals to the common world. We have a goal, and we have to achieve it. We express ourselves through imagery and wording, there is no room questioning our message. There is no room for anything less than perfection. Simplicity, we must achieve it.
{Ethan –
Leaving his apartment for work, he flips his scarf over his shoulder dramatically, twirls his keys around his index finger, gives himself one last look in his full-length mirror and winks.
Andrea –
Dressed in a bathrobe, she opens her closet to choose the day’s outfit, through the impeccable organization. She puts on her makeup, storing it right away in precisely the right spot.
Molly –
Dances with her toothbrush in her brightly colored bathroom. She grabs a piece of fruit and an energy drink as she heads out the door.}
Plot: Episode One
Scene One:
(Hint at Andrea’s possible morning sickness)
-> Over their regular breakfast, Andrea talks to Molly and Ethan about her relationship imperfections (possibility of her boyfriend cheating, whether or not to confront him)
-> Teacher explains the portfolios and their importance (to the audience)
-> Ethan leaves to find the perfect models for the photo shoot
-> Andrea and Molly have “girl talk” about Molly’s possible feelings for Ethan
Scene Two (Censored):
-> Ethan is choosing male models for the photo shoot
-> He humorously critics them (“Did you have Macdonald’s for lunch?! Get out of my face!”/ “Ugh… Plaid!”/ *Screams* Socks?! With sandals?!” / “*sighs*Why does no one match their shoes to their belts anymore?”
-> Molly enters, “Did you find one yet?”
-> She holds eye contact with him a little longer than she should, he doesn’t notice and continues critiquing models.
-> She asks if he needs anything, he gives some witty “no” answer
-> She says to him that Andrea wasn’t feeling well earlier, and she’s going to see if she’s okay. *exits*
-> Ethan calls in the next potential model with a discouraged moan.
-> he looks up and smiles, obviously pleased *cut*
Scene Three:
-> Andrea is writing out what she is going to say to her boyfriend (confronting him about cheating on her, asking if their relationship is worth fixing, etc.)
-> insert another clue that she may be pregnant
-> This is when she starts to worry and leaves to buy a pregnancy test.
Scene Four:
Mention that despite some difficulty, the pictures for the portfolios are ready?
-> Ethan meets with Molly after work (their wind-down ritual)
-> Ethan talks about his new flame and asks Molly’s opinion
-> Molly thinks he is telling her he likes her
Up until here, the scene is light an humorous, and then:
-> Andrea enters, pale as a ghost.
-> She announces she may be pregnant
Ending voice over:
Simplicity, as human beings we crave, but in life, it’s hard to grasp. It’s the relationships, the feelings, the jobs, the effort we put in for little gain, and the sweet shocking let downs. We’re busy, we’re emotional, we make poor decisions and we loose sight of our priorities. We strive for perfection, though sometimes perfection itself becomes our greatest adversary. We struggle devotedly to brake down our surroundings, however through our attempts to achieve a basic norm, we create complication. In our work the message must be clear, though in our lives, the lines are constantly blurred. Simplicity, it’s not quite as simple as we thought.
In keeping with our new pitch, we’ve also created a new name for our show:
“Within Style,” as it deals with the lives of three students looking to work inside the fashion industry.
Also, because we had to put the characters in more of a school setting, we had to get rid of Veronica Rouge's character... for now.
